Impedance Spectroscopy (IS) was used for the characterisation of sandwichlike piles, built up from thinnest, in particular polymeric langmuir-blodgett films. The relevance of the accomplished simulations with equivalent circuit diagrams, which are based on physical models, is shown by the proof of the homogeneous structure of the LB layers by linear dependencies of the measured variables on the layer thicknesses. Porosities can be estimated and thus the quality of the LB films can be judged. The anion exchange at cationic LB films, completely blockable by hydrophobic surface layers, shows the suitability of the IS as a sensitive method for the investigation of interactions within the layers.
