Solvated ions have been studied as model systems for solutions by means of FT-ICR mass spectrometry. Hydrated vanadium(I) cations react with HCl by oxidation of the central ion, chromium(I) to copper(I) react by precipitation of the binary metal chloride MCl. The black body radiation induced fragmentation of ionic ammonia clusters has been described in detail both experimentally and theoretically. New insights in the coordination chemistry of silver cations have been gained by ligand exchange reactions.
