For bonded multistrand tendons a method for inserting glass fiber sensors into the cavities between the individual wires of prestressing steel strands was developed. By optimizing the fiber layout and geometry, excellent bond could be achieved between fiber and prestressing steel without additional gluing. Good correlation with reference strain measurements could be demonstrated. In addition to spatially resolved strain measurement, grouting errors and prestressing steel fractures could also be detected.
