A linear state-space model of a coaxial helicopter in hover is determined using system identification and parameter estimation methods. The linear model was developed with the dynamics and characteristics of a coaxial rotorcraft in mind, particularly the coaxial helicopter CoAX 600 manufactured by edm aerotec GmbH. Therefore, the model structure was based on the linearization of a physics-based nonlinear model of the same helicopter with identified parameters. The linear state-space model includes a parsimonious set of states and parameters in the state and input matrices. The unknown parameters of the model were estimated using flight test data captured while performing several maneuvers in hover. A time-domain implementation of the Maximum Likelihood parameter estimation method was used for estimating the respective parameters. Model proofs of matches and relative parameter statistics are provided and discussed to assess the validity of the model.     «
