To enable inductive power transfer systems for electric vehicle battery charging, interoperability between the charging station and the vehicle is critical and requires careful consideration during the design phase. An impedance plane method (IPM) has been derived that provides a flexible design and assessment methodology. The IPM establishes impedance interfaces and capability planes based on component limitations, allowing for various interoperability studies. The IPM has been extended to include losses and leakage flux and has been successfully applied to various use cases, improving interoperability.
