The aim of the present study was to evaluate the topographic relationship between lower mandibular third molars (LTM) and the mandibular canal (MC) in panoramic tomography and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). In conclusion, preoperative CBCT can be helpful for evaluation of the topographic relationship between MC and LTM, especially in high risk (superimposition of tooth apex and MC; contact of the nerve is assumed) and moderate risk cases (contact between tooth apex and MC; contact of the nerve is probable).
