Today, one common approach for losing weight by lifestyle interventions is to join a health club. Currently, about 10 million German adults are member in one of 8700 health clubs. Weight loss is one of the major reasons for a health club membership. The effectiveness of different weight loss programmes under real-life conditions in health clubs is still unknown. In the current study, the effectiveness of three different weight loss approaches was examined for the first time under daily life conditions in 95 German health clubs including 788 new customers. The results provide an important basis to recommend and optimize effective lifestyle interventions for initial weight loss.
