Molecular biological methods for the differentiation of living and dead bacteria as well as infectious and non-infectious viruses were developed to measure the success of disinfection with ozone, chlorine, low pressure UV and heat. With the fluorescent dye propidium monoazide (PMA) and the detection of long DNA fragments the inactivation performance of ozone, heat and low pressure UV radiation could be measured using qPCR. This theses shows for which type of disinfection the studied methods can be applied.
