Shear-cutting is one of the most important machining processes in the sheet metal processing industry. As a result of the shear-cutting process, deformations in the sheet metal structure occur at the cut edge. This paper describes a successful, 2-stage shear-cutting process which considerably reduces the damage at the cut edge, thereby improving the hole extension capability of shear-cut holes. This was done by systematically varying the trimming cut spacing and determining a multi-material process window.
