Intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) treatment planning involves multiobjective dose optimization with the intention to cover tumors with sufficient dose and simultaneously spare organs at risk. It determines dosimetric quality and at the same time efficiency in terms of planning and treatment times. This thesis demonstrates the feasibility of optimizing dosimetric quality as well as planning and delivery efficiency in IMRT planning with photons and protons by use of different methods and at diverse stages of RT treatment.
