The relationship between the occurence of postoperative wound healing disorders following a neck dissection in cancers of the oral cavity and radiation therapy has been studied clinically and in a molecular setting in the current investigation. Results according to the transcutaneous measurement of tissue oxygenation and perfusion, the specific expression of antimicrobial peptides, and the radiation induced skin fibrosis suggest starting points concerning surgical prevention and the preoperative identification of patients at risk.
