This thesis was concerned with the single crystal growth and the investigation of the low-temperature properties of itinerant antiferromagnets (CrB
2, MnB
2, and CuMnSb) and cubic chiral helimagnets (MnSi, Mn
1-xFe
xSi, Fe
1-xCo
xSi, and Cu
2OSeO
3). Several all-metal sealed crystal growth apparatus were designed. Measurements of the magnetization, susceptibility, and specific heat established CrB
2 as a prime example for weak itinerant magnetism, confirmed a peculiar combination of magnetic properties for single-crystal CuMnSb, and addressed the magnetic phase diagrams of the helimagnets, in particular around the Skyrmion lattice state.
