The Health Attitude Survey (HAS) is a questionnaire for assessing characteristics that are associated with somatization. In this study we validated the German version in a sample of psychosomatic outpatients. After exclusion of three items we found six factors that differed slightly from those of the original English version. The HAS showed a moderate sensitivity and specificity for identifying patients with a somatoform disorder. The discriminant and construct validity as well as the reliability of the HAS and four of its six scales, respectively, were also acceptable at least.
