The aim of the dissertation was to investigate the influence of epigenetic mechanism such as histone acetylation and expression of histone acetyltransferases (HATs) in human abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). Histone acetylation and expression of HATs (GNAT, CBP, and MYST family) were significantly increased in AAA than in healthy aorta. Especially KAT2B, KAT3B, and KAT6B seem to be markedly expressed in AAA at both mRNA and protein level. The results show for the first time that epigenetics might play a decisive role in AAA.
