This thesis focuses on the physics of heavy-light mesons, i.e. quark-antiquark systems composed of a heavy (c or b) and a light (u, d or s) quark. These mesons interact with Nambu-Goldstone bosons, the pions, kaons and the eta, in a way constrained by chiral symmetry. The theory describing these interactions is chiral effective theory. In this theses various applications of this theory are presented, where special emphasis is placed on chiral extrapolations of recent Quantum Chromodynamics calculations on Euclidean lattices.
