Torque magnetometry at low temperature is performed to investigate the magnetic properties of MnSi thin films, of a CrB
2 single crystal and of a two-dimensional electron system (2DES) formed at the interface of MgZnO/ZnO. The magnetic anisotropy and phase diagram of MnSi as well as information on the electronic structure of CrB
2 are obtained. The MgZnO/ZnO 2DES exhibits the de Haas-van Alphen effect and non-equilibrium currents which are analyzed in order to determine ground state properties and excited states, respectively.
