Pancreatic Neuritis (PN) is a histopath. feature of chronic pancreatitis (CP) and pancreatic carcinoma (PC) and correlates with abdominal neuropathic pain. In this dissertation immune cell subtypes composing PN were immunhistochemically quantified and correlated to the presence of pain. Here we could show that macrophages, CD8+ T-Lymphocytes and mast cells (MC) were the dominant cells in PN. Pain correlated with a specific elevation of MC in PN, suggesting MC-induced hypersensitivity in PC and CP.
