A screening of different metal halides and nucleophilc co-catalysts, as well as a mechanistic study, were performed on the synthesis of propylene carbonate from propylene oxide and carbon dioxide (CO2). The system NbCl5/nBu4Br leads to high TOFs under mild conditions (r.t., 1 bar CO2).
Different platinum and palladium complexes with phosphines or N-heterocyclic carbenes ligands were synthesized and their reactivity towards CO2 activation and CO2 insertion into metal-H or metal-CH3 bond was studied.
