For the calculation of high density cores of the Forschungsneutronenquelle Heinz Maier-Leibnitz (FRM II), the new coupled program system "X²" has been developed. It is based on MCNP, CFX and MonteBurns. It was verified by calculating the neutronics and thermal hydraulics of the current fuel element of FRM II. Afterwards, a number of new cores were calculated, based on a fuel with lower enrichment. As a possible new fuel, disperse UMo (50% enriched) and monotlithic UMo (40% enriched) were chosen. The uncertainties of the calculations were determined using a sensitivity analysis.
