This thesis is concerned with the detection of galaxy clusters in X-rays. For test measurements of the currently developed X-ray telescope eROSITA (extended ROentgen Survey with an Imaging Telescope Array), I have developed an algorithm for sub-pixel resolution, which allows for a significantly improved characterization of the point spread function of the new mirrors. Furthermmore, I developed image simulators for eROSITA and for the currently operating X-ray observatory XMM-Newton. With the latter, I could determine the sensitivity of a current X-ray survey with XMM, concerning the identification of galaxy clusters. For eROSITA, I could estimate the cluster yield of the future survey with an alternative approach and hereby confirm the scientifc goal of the mission.
