Poly(N,N-dimethyl acrylamide-co-Ca 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonate) (CaAMPS®-co-NNDMA) is a synthetic copolymer commonly used as cement fluid loss additive (FLA). Since the temperature correlated loss of FLA performance is not well understood, it was the first objective of this study to test the impact of 100°C on adsorption and hence effectiveness of CaAMPS®-co-NNDMA. In multi-admixture systems usually employed in oil well cementing, the efficiency of CaAMPS®-co-NNDMA is often diminished resulting from polymer incompatibility. Thus, the second objective of this work was to determine the effectiveness of CaAMPS®-co-NNDMA at 80°C in the presence of a selection of important additives, namely free water control agents and retarders. Taken together, the main objective of the present study was to help developing more effective and hence more economic admixture systems for the oil industry.
