The research project 'Reuse of reinforced concrete components' investigates the possibility of reusing entire structural elements in the construction of new buildings. In the case of existing concrete, the compressive strength under sustained loading may be lower than in new concrete due to the reduced beneficial effects of post-hardening, an aspect rarely studied. This study tested cylindrical specimens aged 28 days to 52 years under sustained loads of 62-90% of the short-term strength for up to 55 days. Results indicate a reduced sustained load strength of 70-75% of the average compressive strength within the tested observation period. Given Germany's current sustained load factor = 0.85 for reinforced concrete, a reduction to 0.7-0.75 for aged concrete may be necessary, pending further research.
