In this paper we describe the work within the SOFTNET project. New technical challenges on the one hand and constraints on the other hand demand concepts for a methodical service engineering for information and communication networks. Goal of SOFTNET is the development of a comprehensive concept for service engineering based on a specified engineering process, a component-based system architecture, and accompanying economical models.
