In this paper, we propose a straightforward generalization of the propagation of stochastic electromagnetic fields with Gaussian probability distribution, which is in the current model described by spatial auto-correlation and cross-correlation functions. We propose to describe the spatial and temporal propagation of random fields in terms of characteristic functionals. This new approach generalizes the existing models for the characterization and propagation of stochastic electromagnetic fields, such that one can now treat arbitrary statistics.
