The building design has passed through a rapid change in recent years. BIM is on everyone's lips. In the following paper a broad overview of the development of building design since the late Middle Ages is given. On today's scope of planning with BIM software special attention is paid. This involves primarily the software Revit 2015 from Autodesk, which is illustrated by a detailed example, but it also includes a brief overview of alternative software solutions available on the market. The example demonstrates the modeling of a three dimensional building model of the building of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Munich in Garching. In this example various functions of a modern CAD program are explained and illustrated. Furthermore, different methods are shown for data exchange between different projects with the same program and even between different programs. This procedures are first shown in general and then concretized by examples. The conclusion of this thesis is an outlook on the construction planning of the future and the development of BIM.     «
