This paper presents a method to use energy as a planning resource, equal to material and personal resources. The detailed planning process is supported by a modeling approach using the modeling language Modelica and allows the implementation of energy and load management in production plants. Foundations for this load management are simulations of the plant model to forecast energy consumption. These simulations are implemented as part of an energy management module of a Manufacturing Execution System (MES). The modeling approach has been evaluated using a sample plant from the automotive field.
