Because of the progressing digitalization of all project data, data management in the construction industry is becoming more and more important. The more extensive the project, the more people or enterprises are usually involved. This leads to an immense amount of data, which needs to be kept track of and therefore to be sensibly administrated. Furthermore the number of projects being planned and executed with the method of BIM is increasing. A virtual 3D-model makes up the center of the cooperation of all project participants. To enable a successful workflow and data exchange the use of a system for data management is inevitable. This work provides an overview over BIM, its present use, and its advantages. Followed by this, definitions of different types of cooperation and data management will be introduced. The focus of this work lies in the presentation and investigation of "Autodesk Vault" - a system developed by the company Autodesk for managing data. For this it will be specifically focused on the modes of operation and the available features which facilitate the collaboration between database and other programs. This will be reached by using the programs Autodesk, Revit, AutoCAD, Autodesk investigations and Microsoft Office.
