Different product model types, interdisciplinary work and heterogeneous knowledge distribution are main challenges that hinder the efficient use of product models in product development processes. This dissertation meets theses challenges by providing a knowledge base that represents the knowledge needed to support the work with product models. Based on industry studies and literature analyses, situations and tasks that need to be supported are identified, and the required knowledge is acquired and represented in the knowledge base.
