In this substudy of the REVIVAL-3 study, which investigated the effect of Erythropoietin in acute myocardial infarct, serial blood tests were conducted on 76 patients, and laboratory parameters (blood count, reticulocytes, CRP) and RNA- expression of BLC-2, PROM1, ENG, CXCL 12, and IL-6 were measured; in addition, the count of circulating, apoptotic leucocytes was determined. It was found that erythropoietin does not influence the systemic inflammatoric reaction nor the RNA- expression of inflammatory genes, but inhibition of apoptosis was shown in circulating leucocytes.
