With help of a new developed, flexible measuring system which is adaptable to a broad spectrum of forming machines used in body part manufacturing, measuring data of high quality can be acquired for the determination of the press condition. By the acquisition of press parameters the system can be used for the comparison of the characteristics of different presses. On basis of the measuring data a finite element simulation model of the forming operation is built up, using suitable approximations of the machine parts and the contact areas of the tools. The influence of the deformation behaviour of the press table and ram surfaces on the process of tool manufacturing can be shown.
