In this study, the spatial distribution of alkaloids as secondary metabolites of the tobacco plant “Nicotiana tabacum” was investigated. In line with the investigation, the plant exemplified model system, clarifying basic questions concerning the regulation of alkaloid synthesis and the distribution of alkaloids. The experiments should contribute to the understanding of the interaction between the variation of resource supply and the formation of secondary metabolites, as well as their distribution on the cellular level. In the context of the investigation of the relationship between primary and secondary metabolism, the plant received another stress factor namely mechanical wounding. In view of these requirements the experiments were carried out with single cell analysis. Capillary electrophoresis in connection with UV- detection or mass spectrometry was utilized as instrumental analytical method. Electron microscopy enabled structural visualisation of the research probes.
