The paper presents the theorie, design and experimental implementation of electrostatic high voltage ac generators. The design is analogous to an electrostatic drum-type dc generator. To improve the power output, the space between rotor and stator is filled with a polar liquid. The frequency of the output current is equal to the frequency of the excitation voltage and independent of the rotor speed. The results of the calculation of the output voltage and current are verified by data of two experimental generators. Computations show that for various applications advantages in weight and size can be expected compared with electromagnetic machines.
