An Hand von acht Gebieten in Stadtrandlagen von München wird untersucht, welche Symbiosen zwischen Stadtraum und Einzelhandel vorhanden sind. In diesem Zusammenhang werden Geschäftsgebäude auf die Bedeutung der Architektur und der ortsbezogenen Identifikation der Bevölkerung, sowie Betriebsformen auf stadträumliche und gesellschaftliche Einflüsse untersucht. Die Untersuchung führt zu Entwicklungsaussichten, die sowohl eine Perspektive über die Zukunftsfähigkeit des kleinteiligen Einzelhandels in Stadtrandlagen ermöglichen, als auch die Auswirkung von Leerstand auf die Stadtrandlagen beschreiben.     «

The urban fringe is suffering harder from the structural changes in retail business than the city centres and its trading down causes more social problems. Using the example of eight fringe districts of Munich the survey examines the symbiotic relation between urban area und retail business. In this context commercial premises were under examination with regard to the importance of architecture and to the extent that the population identifies with their environment. In addition, the morphology of commercial places was examined in terms of its urban and social relevance. The survey suggests development prospects that both provide a perspective on the future of retail business in the urban fringe and account for the implications of trading down in fringe districts.     «
