Equivalent circuits model the proceedings in lithium-ion cells for state estimation. The two main processes, the particle transport due to diffusion and the charge transfer at the electrode-electrolyte interphase are represented by the Warburg impedance and the ZARC element, respectively. For reasons of understanding the processes, equivalent circuits consisting of only passive elements were developed. They reproduce or approximate the two impedances and their behaviour is analysed in both, the frequency and the time domain.
