The objective of this work was the synthesis of highly branched, soluble polymethylsilanes and their application as soluble precursors for the pyrolytic preparation of SiC. Therefore, chloro-substituted methyloligosilanes were selectively prepared via the chlorodephenylation of appropriately phenyl-substituted methyloligosilanes using
Friedel-
Crafts-acylation reaction conditions. Via the
Wurtz-type reductive coupling of Me
5Si
3Cl
3 the desired polysilane could be achieved. Its pyrolysis gaining SiC was proven.
