This thesis focuses on the syntheses of chemical compounds with ThCr
2Si
2 structure type, analogous to the superconducting iron-pnictides, and related structures including the investigation of their structural and physical properties. The effects of charge doping were studied with respect to their electronic structures and superconducting behavior. The variations in the structural parameters with focus on the tunable
E–
E distances and the effect of partial substitution on the T
c are discussed. In addition binary Ca–As compounds were synthesized and characterized.
