Abstract:: This thesis investigates whether type 1 and type 2 diabetes associated single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) influence age of type 1 diabetes onset and residual beta cell function in children and adults with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes. In the second part, a pilot, non-randomized, controlled intervention trial is performed, in order to examine whether a single autologous cord blood infusion can change the natural course of metabolic and immune function in children type 1 diabetes.

Im zweiten Teil der Arbeit wird im Rahmen von einer pilot, nicht-randomisierten, kontrollierten Interventionsstudie der Effekt einer autologen Nabelschnurbluttransfusion auf die Betazell- und Immunfunktion von Kindern mit Typ 1 Diabetes untersucht. «
