Fatty acids of lipid classes in human plasma are used diagnostically to determine risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Phytosterols and their fatty acid esters are an object of research due to their anti-atherogenic and cholesterol lowering properties and used in their therapy. In this work, two analytical methods were developed and validated in this regard. Firstly, a method for determining the fatty acid composition of lipid classes in human plasma and, secondly, for the analysis of free phytosterols and phytosterol fatty acid esters in food.
