For series production of complex sheet metal forming parts, a process chain of several forming operations is employed. Considering the demands of the automotive industry, in this thesis the focus is put on the shearing process of Magnesium sheet, for which a novel concept for a heatable shearing tool is designed and proven. First, a fundamental understanding for the material behavior in the shearing process is established based on the analysis of experimental data. With an optimized parameter set, continuous stroke experiments are conducted that identify the generation of loose particles in the shear zone as the main flaking mechanism of Magnesium AZ31.
