The discovery potential of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider has been evaluated for Standard Model Higgs boson production in vector-boson fusion with subsequent decay into two W bosons. The impact of additional inelastic proton-proton interactions on the discovery potential has been studied and methods have been developed in order to decrease these pile-up effects by exploiting tracking and vertexing information to associate particles to the primary interaction.

Das Entdeckungspotenzial des ATLAS-Experiments am Large Hadron Collider für Standardmodell Higgs-Bosonproduktion in Vektorbosonfusion mit nachfolgendem Zerfall in zwei W-Bosonen wurde untersucht. Der Einfluss zusätzlicher inelastischer Proton-Proton-Wechselwirkungen auf das Entdeckungspotenzial wurde studiert und Methoden wurden entwickelt, um durch Ausnutzen von Spur- und Vertexinformationen Teilchen der primären Wechselwirkung zuzuordnen und damit diese Pileup-Effekte zu verringern.
