Some studies in the literature claim a significant seasonal variation of the intraocular pressure (IOP), due to the influence of different factors. The aim of our study was to examine perennial influences on intraocular pressure in the caucasian population.
Over a period of 12 years the data of 172 glaucoma subjects of the outpatient glaucoma clinic of the Technical University Munich were retrospectively evaluated. Most patients were medically treated to abate the IOP.
Slight seasonal variations could be found with the months with low sunlight activity demonstrating higher measurements than the months with high sunlight activity. The statistical significance of seasonal variation, which has been shown in other studies, could not be confirmed in this study.
