The present work shows similarities and differences of the load-carrying capacity calculation methods of antifriction bearings and cylindrical gears. Special attention is put on the detailed local view with the FVA-EDP-program-system RIKOR/LAGER2. Besides a procedure is shown, how the manufacturing deviations of a transmission can be considered with the determination of the gear load-carrying capacity. The conversion of the load-carrying capacity characteristic values of antifriction bearings and gears is presented. The probability of survival can be used as common and directly comparable characteristic value and made possible at the same time the determination of a system probability of survival and thus a system security respectively a system life time.
