Permanent changes in complex software systems are a big problem of software development. Agile life cycle models intensify this situation by short, only few weeks lasting release cycles. On these conditions it gets more and more difficult to balance between release candidates. Existing approaches offer cost-benefit analysis as decision support. The contribution of this dissertation is a novel model for release management (BBEF), which over and above considers rationale, system, communication and organizational models in release planning. Especially, BEEF models dependencies between these models and improves release management because project managers are enabled to take more information into account in their decisions between alternative release candidates of a roadmap.
