The thesis at hand presents the qualitative architecture evaluation method POSAAM (Pattern Orieneted Software Architecture Analysis Method). The method makes use of expert knowledge encapsulated within architectural patterns about appropriate ways to design the architecture of systems in order to solve problems of a class of problems addressed by the pattern. The method POSAAM defines how the knowledge encapsulated within architectural patterns needs to be provided in order to enable its systematic use during the evaluation.
By making use of the expert knowledge encapsulated in patterns to support the evaluation process, the evaluation process becomes more systematic, the evaluation results become more objective, and are easier to comprehend, to retrace or even to reproduce in comparison to existing evaluation methods.
