Der Ausgangspunkt der Arbeit liegt in der Suche nach nachhaltigen funktionalen Strukturen für die kompakte Stadt. Die Vorgehensweise der Arbeit besteht in einem strukturellen Vergleich zweier Bezugsbeispiel, Shanghais und Münchens. Shanghai und München sind zwei große unterschiedliche Städte. Dennoch macht der Vergleich dieser zwei Stadttypen ihre höchst unterschiedliche Entwicklungslogik sichtbar. Ferner lässt sich die nachhaltige funktionale Struktur für die kompakte Stadt als Resultat einer Zivilisationsdynamik auffassen. Die Untersuchung beschäftigt sich hauptsächlich mit jeweils drei typischen einen Quadratkilometer umfassenden Untersuchungsgebieten in jeder Stadt. Basierend auf Untersuchung und Analysen unter verschiedenen Aspekten werden Empfehlungen für eine nachhaltige Entwicklung für Shanghai und München gegeben.     «

The target of this dissertation lies in the searching for sustainable functional structures of the compact city. The approach of the present study consists in a structural comparison between two big different cities, Shanghai and Munich. The comparable studies between these two different urban types enable the visualization of the logics of urban development, consequently enlightening how to achieve the sustainable functional structure in the compact city. The thesis focuses on the investigation of three typical one square kilometre areas in each city. Based on the results of comprehensive investigation and analysis in different aspects between Shanghai and Munich, some recommendations have been suggested at the conclusion for the future sustainable development.      «
