Fast growing small and medium-sized businesses increasingly attract international creditors and investors.
In order to assure the financing of growth and innvoation as well as handling familiy-internal purposes
small and medium-sized businesses rival about capital on the international finance markets. Consequently
financial accounting, as yet based on local german-gaap and in particular tax-oriented, is requested
to meet with the growing information-requirements. Hence family businesses take great interest in a
voluntary appliance of an international accounting standard and in the harmonization of their internal and external
reporting. Literature does not reveal a profund basis on characteristics of business-management of small and
medium-sized entities. Moreover there has no context been drawn of the characteristics as prerequisites to
external business reporting. This dissertation calls attention to the hurdles small and medium sized-businesses
are confronted with when adapting their accounting- and reporting-systems to international accounting rules.
Besides meeting with the accounting-regulations creating earning-statements, the mapping of crucial operating
business-activities of the entity represents the central point of the analysis. Considering a functional structured
company-organization and likewise -reporting, the concept proposes a proceeding to design a divisional business
reporting structure to reveal crucial operating objects external users demand for making economic decisions.
