„Green Chemistry“ ist nicht die Entwicklung eines neuen Spezialgebietes der Chemie, sondern ein Ansatz zum Schutz der Umwelt und der natürlichen Ressourcen. Die vorliegende Dissertation greift als Spezialgebiet die Katalyse heraus und befasst sich mit dem metallorganischen Katalysator Methyltrioxorhenium(VII) (MTO). Insbesondere im Hinblick auf die Eignung der Nebenprodukte, den dimeren Methylrhenium(VI)-oxiden, als Oxidationskatalysatoren und den Test alternativer Methylierungsmittel, die das hoch toxische Tetramethylzinn in der Darstellung von MTO ersetzen sollen, werden Detailstudien vorgestellt. Mit der oxidativen Veredelung des nachwachsenden Rohstoffs Stärke wird ein neues Anwendungsgebiet von MTO eröffnet. Erneut erweist sich diese Substanz als hochaktiver Katalysator für Oxidationen mit Wasserstoffperoxid.
