In this study three groups of inpatients with severe chronic tinnitus due to sudden hearing loss, noise-induced hearing loss and M. Menière were analysed after an average of 15 years after getting a multimodal cognitive-behavioural inpatient treatment. Using German version of Tinnitus Questionnaire (Tinnitus-Fragebogen; TF), a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and a Hopkin’s-Check-List (Symptom-Check-List; SCL-90-R) a significant and clinical relevant effect of the therapy could be demonstrated for all patients, which was found to be stable in the Follow-Up.
The research also revealed the following factors as being predictors for strong discomfort in patients with chronic tinnitus: sex (male), noise-induced hearing loss and a high score of Global Severity Index (GSI/SCL-90-R).
