In this thesis, I have studied different aspects of Active
Galactic Nuclei (AGN) and of the Cosmic X-ray background (CXB)
using data from the Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) on board the
Swift mission. I developed an imaging reconstruction technique
based on the Maximum Likelihood method. This method is used
to detect new AGN in the BAT survey (15-200 keV). I present the
results about the survey and discuss the properties of the detected
sources. I also derive, using BAT survey data, a new spectrum
of the CXB emission.
