Abstract:
Bottom-up assembly protocols utilizing organic modules (tetrazole ligands, porphyrins and N-heterocyclic carbenes) are developed to stabilize, organize and control the properties of transition metal atoms on the atomically planar Ag(111) solid/vacuum interface. An arsenal of experimental analysis techniques, encompassing microscopy, spectroscopy and diffraction, is applied in rigorous investigations of the structural, chemical and electronic properties of the interface. Thus, unravelling structure-function relationships enables and progresses advanced surface engineering.
